Un appearance (also called appearance or skin, by its name in English) is the texture that gives color to a player or creature.

Skin packs
Main article: Skin packsCreate a look
Some players want a new look, something that identifies them. There is always the option of searching the Internet for some aspect (skin) that is already done, but many players prefer to create it themselves.
A custom look is allows you to add a touch of your style to your gamer model, to do so you can always use a skin editor created by the community or edit the file "steve.png" manually with an editor like Photoshop, GIMP, Paint.net or other similar editors. The file "steve.png" can be downloaded here. When editing manually, be sure to keep the original dimensions and erase the background (unused or uncoloured pixels). Otherwise, Minecraft may not recognize the file when you upload it.
On the other hand, some people find it easy to use a program, either downloadable or from the browser, that allows you to view the model in three dimensions while editing your model. For example, a program called Skincraft will also help players by providing them with a series of templates (such as heads, boots, etc.), to give a look just as the user wishes. Despite not having any artistic skills.
After creating a custom skin, either from an editor or by modifying the "steve.png" file, it's time to upload the .png file to the www.minecraft.net profile page. Once done, start Minecraft and enjoy how you look! Others will be able to see your model and with your custom look, but you will not be able to see it if you are not logged in and playing alone.

Another skin guide, but on a black background. For arm and leg sections only, "right" indicates outward, "left" indicates inward.
-
The new skin template that will work with Minecraft version 1.8; You can create a second layer on each part of the body with this template.
-
An adaptation of the previous template, color-coded to match the corresponding faces of the skin-front, back, left, right, top, and bottom. The marked areas represent the secondary layer.
Note: 1,8 templates can be used for pre-1.8 skin on the skin server. Only the top half of the image is used, for example, not the individual arms and legs at the bottom and there is no overlap of any layer except the head. If the skin is in resource pack by 1.7, it must use the old system exactly.
Before 1.8, there are roughly 2.29 × 1011,328 different unique skins. As of 1.8, there can be up to 3.06 × 1023,581 unique Minecraft skins.
