Obtaining
To obtain a gold ingot, a block of gold ore must be melted in a furnace. It can also be manufactured with a block of gold.

Uses
Gold bars can be used to create tools, swords, and armor, just like iron.
Even so, gold has a lower resistance and has the same characteristics as wood and leather in resistance (although since the Beta 1.2 version, gold tools, weapons and armor have a higher speed, but still have a very low resistance ), so it is not usually used to create this type of object if it is not for aesthetic purposes.
This one is also good for dealing with piglins.
Despite the above, since 1.16, gold is one of the materials needed for crafting Netherite Ingots, along with Netherite Scrap, obtained by melting Ancient Rubble, a very rare block found in the Nether.
