The Java Edition has been in constant development since its inception on May 10, 2009 until today. What is now called pre-Classic refers to the unreleased versions of Minecraft during the week from May 10 to May 16, 2009. The next phase, later called Classic, lasted from May 17 to May 10. November 2009. Indev, which means "in development" hard from December 23, 2009 to February 23, 2010. Infdev, which means "infinite development", hard from 27 from February to June 30, 2010. The Alpha lasted from June 30 to December 3, 2010, and the Beta lasted from December 20, 2010 to November 11, 2011. The official release of Minecraft (Java Edition) arrived on November 18, 2011, at MINECON 2011, and several updates have been released since that day, the most recent being 1.16.5.
The full versions stage of development for Minecraft: Java Edition began on November 18, 2011, and has continued to this day. At this point in development, the game is considered "complete", already having an ending and being ready for reviews and ratings. The price of the game has increased from what it was in the Beta, but users who bought it before have not had to pay that extra.

The Beta phase of development began on December 20, 2010, and ended on November 18, 2011. The goals set during development were to focus on polishing the gameplay, adding additional content and more stability. The price of the game increased compared to the Alpha version, but players who had already purchased the game were not charged for this increase.

The development period of the alpha version of Minecraft began on June 29, 2010 and ended on December 20, 2010. Although this version limited the game mode to Survival, we could see a preview of the Multiplayer mode. During this period, Notch was developing the game full time, so the updates were very frequent. These were the first versions that had to be purchased, the price increased in later stages.

The Infdev development phase started on February 27, 2010 and ended on June 30, 2010. During this stage, Minecraft was only available for single player in Survival mode and the versions were not listed, they were all named after Minecraft Infdev. At this point, Notch reshaped the game to allow the world to have "infinite" distance for the most part.
The Indev development phase began on December 23, 2009 and ended on February 27, 2010. It was the successor to Survival Test and continued to expand the survival mode aspects of the game, giving more similarity to the game of today. The versions of this stage had no number or used the same.
Classic was the first long development phase of the game, which was constantly improved and updated for several months. It happened between May 16 and December 13, 2009. The original game mode was Creative, but on September 1, 2009 the development of Survival mode began under the name of Survival Test.
