Break
The land of souls falls as an object when you break it with any tool or with your hands, but the fastest way to get it is with a shovel.
Soul Sand can be turned into Soul Land by creating and then breaking a Soul Bonfire with Soul Sand as an ingredient for bonfire creation (the only renewable source of material for Soul Land). This is explained according to Mojang in that the sand is fertilized with the ashes of the bonfire.

Natural generation
Soul Land naturally spawns in the Soul Sand Valley biome.
Easier
Unlike Soul Arena, Soul Ground does not slow mobs and does not create columns of bubbles.
Fuego
The fire that is kindled on the land of souls becomes soul fire, which is the blue variant of normal fire, burning for a longer time.
Withers
4 blocks of Soul Earth (or Soul Sand) are used to spawn a Wither.
Basalt
Lava on top of the land of souls and directly adjacent to the blue ice turns to basalt. Reproducing basalt in this way may comprise a "basalt generator".
A simple basalt generator.
