HR melon seeds They are an item that can be found in abandoned mine chests, for barter (from 1.14 for the wandering villager) by putting a melon slice on the crafting grid or from 1.7.2 in the jungles.
Melon seeds can be planted in farmland. Little by little they grow until they reach maturity; As soon as they become stalks, they can start producing melons in any adjacent block on dirt, grass or cropland. In case there is already a melon occupying an adjacent position, the stem will not produce any more melons until that one is removed. When a melon grows on arable land, it becomes common land. A single stem can grow an unlimited number of melons.
Melon seeds take longer to grow than other crops, and breaking a melon leaves 3-7 slices, which can be used as a safe food source. Melon blocks only grow when there is no opaque block on the stem.
Melon seeds, like other seeds, need a certain amount of light to grow. A torch radiates the minimum required illumination. A redstone torch or other very low light sources are not enough, causing the seed to come out of the ground and can be collected.
Melon seeds can be grown in the manner mentioned above. This happens because when leaving the ground, occasionally 2 seeds can come out of the same stem. Still, the seeds can be obtained from melon slices, so this method is much more efficient.
Since update 1.0.0, melon seeds are only affected by ground stone in their first growth stage, and not once they reach maturity.

Automatic cultivation
An automatic melon cultivation using pistons. Placing melon seeds, soil and pistons in a suitable position allows melons to grow in front of the pistons, which when activated destroy the melons. The melon slices will be propelled forward, and by means of a water channel placed directly in front of the melons a system can be constructed that will carry the melon slices towards the recipient through the water.
NOTE: For automatic crops with a small space, such as underground, it should be noted that the melon plant (the stem) cannot grow or produce melons if there is a non-transparent block on top. This does not apply to the melon block itself, which can be grown with a block on it without any problem.
