playing field
The playing field is usually made up of blocks that are easily destroyed, such as snow, leaves, TNT, etc. Under the field there is a pit in which the players who lose because they have taken the block they were on or have fallen through a hole fall. It can be played in large scenarios, in teams, or in smaller scenarios, 1 against 1, there are even games of all against all.
No cheating
Spleef has several basic rules that are not very restrictive and are limited to improving the gaming experience. These may change depending on the server.
- Placing blocks during the game is prohibited.
- It is forbidden to destroy or place blocks once you have lost the round.
- The losers must rebuild the field (some servers use scripts to facilitate this process).
- If the remaining players have stayed on "floating islands" and the game cannot be continued, whoever is on the largest surface wins.
- Hitting players is generally prohibited.

The most widely used material that is easily destroyed is snow or block of clay.
Players carry a shovel to ensure that it is easily destroyed.
The walls are usually made of hard materials, such as rock, bricks, even obsidian. In some there are also stands to enjoy the games.
There is also a way out for losers. There is usually water in the pit to prevent fall damage.
Some builders put lava to intimidate the participants. But usually invincibility is granted so they don't die.
Variants
Due to the flexible nature of spleef, the gamemode can be altered in many ways. A common variation is to create multiple levels of playing fields, and upon losing on one arena, you descend to the next. A common theme among variations is incorporating gameplay elements such as fire, explosions, or mobs. Some versions allow someone to destroy blocks from under the players, and others incorporate challenges such as not allowing players to jump.

History
June 23, 2009 - Spleef launched on a server following the launch of Creative Classic Multiplayer. According to the first entry on the website in English, the rules and the name were created by Greenslimy, Pentaclam and Maulrus. He gained popularity after posting Notch on his Tumblr. [1]
It's questionable, but it may have started as a port from Blockland to Minecraft. In 2004, in Blockland there was a type of spleef that worked in a similar way to this. Someone recreated it in Minecraft.
Tron 2.0 in 2002 had a similar gameplay.
