Functionality
The demo version is for players to be able to play in a single world for a period of 100 minutes (5 days in game) before the map crashes and a restart is required.
Although the demo version does not expire, it does come with certain restrictions, since its sole purpose is to allow new players to try Minecraft and give their opinion on it.
Restrictions
Java Edition
The following restrictions apply when playing the game in demo mode:
- The demo map is preset and will always be generated with the same seed, which is -343522682.
- This means that the spawn point of the player, the seed and generated structures they are always the same.
- Survival mode can only be accessed, although if you open the world on LAN and activate the cheats, you can access the other modes and commands.
- Multiplayer servers are inaccessible, although LAN multiplayer is allowed, with the limitation that only 1 demo account is allowed on a server (this is because Minecraft's default name 'Player' cannot be changed).
- Play time is limited to five days in-game (1 hour 40 minutes in real time). After time runs out, players can still navigate the world, but cannot interact with it. Resetting the demo world also resets the demo timer.
- Changing the game time forcibly with external commands or programs can reset the timer.
Bedrock Edition
In November 2018, a trial version for Android called "Minecraft Trial" was released in most countries. However, restrictions still apply; for example, some blocks and elements are removed, including barriers and command blocks (all types). There is also a trial version for Windows 10 and PlayStation 4.
It has the following restrictions:
- The time limit is 90 minutes.
- Unable to play multiplayer, including LAN multiplayer. On PlayStation 4, split screen multiplayer is allowed.
- You cannot change global resources or Add-ons.
- The player is restricted to survival mode.
- The player cannot change the parts of the world options ni activate cheats.
- The player cannot change the player trust permissions.
- The player has restricted access to storage.
- The player is not able to change the seed of the world.
- The worlds are always generated with the seed: 1537846859.
- The player is restricted to the Infinite world type.

Trivia
- The demo mode can be played by all players regardless of whether they have already purchased the game.
- Modifications can be installed in the demo version.
- Servers can be started with the --demo flag (this is technically what the launcher does). Everyone who joins the server will see the demo message.
- If one tries to play a demo version prior to 1.3 from the launcher using a Non-Premium account, he will be able to play the full version.
- This is because version 1.3 is the one that added the demo mode to Minecraft, so previous versions do not have the necessary code to recognize that they are in the demo.
- Write "North Carolina" in the seed selection screen when creating a world, this will be the same as the world of the demo version [Java Edition only]
- The “Forest Glade” in the seed selector grants the same seed from Minecraft Trial [Bedrock Edition only]
- If the game is closed without clicking "Save and Exit", the game will not be saved.
- If the Minecraft 'shortcut and directory is moved to another hard drive etc, it will still be in the demo version, and the previous worlds will not appear.
- It is possible to enter the list of servers by opening the world on LAN and enabling the cheats, then executing the command / kick @s to see the option to return to the list of servers. However, the servers cannot join due to an invalid session.
- If a world is downloaded, it can be played by putting the world folder in "saves" and renaming it to "Demo_World". If a "Demo_World" already exists, it must first be renamed or deleted.
